Cataclysm

For those who are interested, I've transcribed the two pieces of online rules for Cataclysm LRP:
They're pdf files so you'll need a reader to look at them but on the bright side it isn't the arcane (not to mention godsawful) Snapshot viewer nonsense you need to download from the Cataclysm site itself.

If you've got any questions about the system go visit the Forums and ask there ... they won't bite, honest.

As to what the system is like/about I'm sorry, I haven't a clue. I've been drawn in by the lure of a cool character concept, seeing some old friends, and camping in a location that I am really very fond of.

Well, it's not as if my impending familial situation allows me to go to LRP anyway, even one on my doorstep, but the fact that they insist you use an apparently Windows-only viewer for their documentation really puts them on my "no chance" list. What idiot had that brilliant idea?

Looking at the website, it's been built (poorly) by a content management system ... this leads me to believe that the actual authors of the stuff there no absolutely nothing about putting stuff on the internet. I'm sure it was ignorance, not maliciousness (or, worse, Micro$oft cultists).

Hmmm looks kinda cool so far.....now to come up with a concept.

So would you like company in your concept?
(far too keen to LRP for her own good)

I am reliably informed that "the more, the merrier", so yes ... feel free.

Once we have a racial template (we're still negotiating background) I'll pop it on LJ.

I'd love to but we really don't have anything at the moment, we still don't know if they have Fae at all (we know they have Elves) let alone Unseelie as a playable race. Once we have any concrete information I'll publish here ... honest.

Heh - well just by saying that you've given me a vague idea of the idea you have. :D

Ok - I'll try and be patient. ;)

Ah, I thought you'd have got the bare bones of what we were intending from my previous Cataclysm post ... hence the lack of anything approaching an answer =)

Thats great... anyone else I know plitting to come with you?

Heh... Marvellous its brill... I'm one of the Elves.... so are Xana and Paul Evetts if you remember them. Nikki Tippex (Marley) plays and Big Pete Wood. I think they are human...

Ill see you there.... very much up your street I reckon... those interested in stories are definiately most welcome.

As far as I know you need the organisers permission to be anything other than Human.

There are currently definately no Fae as a player race. Im aware however that players are welcome to define new races under guidance (thats how the elves arrived). Whether or not they will be allowed may very much be down to what you think they should be like and how it fits in the game. I'd be deeply suprised if your concepts of fey didn't fit in with the ethos of play. If they are much like elves that could cause problems, other than that there might be issues if theyve already been referenced in group mythologies.

Im sure nick will talk it through with you. They were encouraging people to play humans for the first event, however if its yourself involved I suspect you'd be trusted to play well so it wouldn't matter. What I do know is that if you start up a race then you get to say who plays it and get to be in control of the concept which is a nice touch... except humans... they are generic default. The game has enourmous scope for personalisation and the creation of magics/races/concepts etc that do not yet exist.

Known Races (because of the game they are therefore player races) that have been encountered thus far are...

Humans
Elves
A Minotaur
Lizardmen
Orcs
The weird shit no armed tentacle insect thing.
The vegetable people (though I think they may have been normal to start with)

Their may have been a couple of others but I didn't see them.

XP is live... you gain XP by the hour IC and can trade it in at any point in the event... you get more XP if you sleep in character. Skill costs are based on your base stats in the applicable attribute. XP is also for the player. This means you by no means have to spend it on your character you can save it for your next (lots of people might play a human for their first event to get the hang of the system and save their XP for their next game and long term character, alternatively a group could pool XP to create a group specific 'special thingy' one group for instance pooled their XP to have a minotaur character that would be playable, another might make a sacred grove.

As an interesting aside i don't think there is a skill that allows people to write (I could be wrong). Which is most entertaining... and actually more of an issue than you might think... makes for a nice feel for the world.

Theres also a lovely element of 'Players handbook' to the game the basic rules are just that... basic rules.... I have no real idea what other classes may or may not be able to do which adds to the air of fear... that bloke says hes a mage... but I don't know what he can do... Ive seen some nasty stuff though better be wary.

Theres also no monsters as such... just players... which is very interesting.

Yes indeed messrs Pete Williams and Nick Bond have very little experience of the Internet. Anyone who might want to help them with it would probably be welcomed...

Thanks for that, very helpful indeed! Our original idea was to be the unseelie court to your seelie, but it's clear now that nothing like that is happening since you're not Fey. On the bright side you've given us some great information to write a sales pitch for a Fey race. This could be fun since the first Unseelie to come along in Summer gets to take the throne away!

We have Tim and Nigel Brittain (I'm sure you know Tim, not sure if you know Nigel) and possibly ser Brind too! Plus other people signing up all the time ... should be a very jolly event.

I reckon I know Tim... whod he play... I know quite a few Tims. Be ace to see yourself and young MR Brind should he come.

No the Elves are not fey :0)

No reason why you don't think they might be though... I believe that by enlarge we could be termed 'good' though 'good' is relative of course.

Just so your aware the game caters for about 30 to 50 at the moment.

There was a feeling last time I talked to the refs that over 70 wiould be pushing the numbers limit for it to run smoothly.

A Very Large group would be about ten people...

Its only something to bear in mind as a large group could unbalance the game world.

This is not to say that it shouldn't be done. A King turned up once with a large group and was indeed king for a while by force of arms.

As long as the organisers are aware there might be lots of you,. and you are prepared to possibly be the most influential group you should be fine...

I look forward greatly to seeing your fey.

Have you thought abouit a racial phys-rep or something? Worth mentioning to the refs as its factored into your character model.... (i.e. I believe that a phyw rep requirment gains you a few spare XP to play with...)

Elves have the pointy ears and thats it for us...

Discussions with the referees are ongoing (Nick is on our egroup and is party to all the lunatic ideas being thrown around) ... though we've pretty much reached consensus now. The group is about six strong at the moment, I shouldn't think it will go beyond nine even at it's most optimistic.
