So I've recently discovered that the Z22 that I received for Christmas isn't quite the wunderkind I was hoping it would be. As far as synching with Outlook is concerned, it was absolutely marvellous ... I have no complaints; but a large part of wanting to get it was so that I could take and edit notes on games but sadly the Memo function just isn't up to the task. So I downloaded some .doc editing/reading software (the first of which wouldn't work on the Z22) at which point I discovered that not having a slot for a memory card is a very big deal when you're talking about Word-like documents ... one smallish document and I had almost no room left in memory. So, when it started randomly crashing I was actually quite pleased ... since that meant I could get a refund! After some snooping around and deciding/being persuaded-by-the-Fox that the Tungsten TX was a bit more than I needed and a bit more expensive than I wanted, the final choice was the rather alluring Tungsten E2 with a 1gb memory card.

If anyone has any horror stories regarding the Tungsten E2, please let me know while I can still cancel!

Quite the reverse - I have the tungsten E and it's a good machine.

The only thing I didn't like about it (and I can't tell if they've fixed it with the E2) is that to save money, Palm created the T-E without the standard Palm docking slot at the bottom. So, instead of sitting in a cradle which both recharges the T-E and syncs it with the computer, you get a seperate power cable and USB cable.

However, given that you can draw power through the USB port, I found a website that sells a cable which plugs into the USB port on your computer and has two sockets on the other end - one for the power connector, one for the USB port on the Palm. Cost about £10 - £15 IIRC and means I'm not carrying round two bits of wire when I only need one.

And the T-E syncs with Outlook very easily.

Interestingly, although my Z22 also came with seperate power and USB cables, it charged through the USB quite happily. I wonder if the same might be true of the E2? If not then I'll get a cradle for home, as you say, they're not hideously expensive.

Documents-To-Go was bundled with my T3 and can save things in a nice, compact sub-Word format which uses hardly any memory at all. My SDCard is used for piccies and I have quite a lot (184) of Word-to-Go and excel-to-go docs in the on-board memory. It's relatively inexpensive even if you don't get it in the bundle. Saving full Word docs is still quite byte-consuming though.

Yes, I believe that Documents-to-Go is bundled on the E2. From the sounds of it the suite that I was using on the Z22 (QuickOffice) probably didn't compress as efficiently as DTG.

Quickoffice seems to be okay for me, I've got a few dozen documents on mine and some of them run to 40 pages and I've still got 34% free on my Z22.
Mind you, they're formatting light so maybe that's it.

I might not be using mine as heavily as you need to though.

I tend to write fairly heavily formatted documents (internal hyperlinks, different fonts, headings, etc.) and found that I had practically filled the memory after just a few documents.

Starting to go a bit stir-crazy without having a PDA around though ... who would have imagined I'd get this dependant on it in so short a time?

I keep an old Palm Vx that I got on Ebay as a backup for these occasions. It'll run quick office and I still have an external keyboard for that model.
They are darned handy things, I've started carrying the z22 around all the time and it's great for note taking on the go.
