I seem to have fallen into a WoW-hole again so not been reading LJ anywhere near as diligently as I should ... although I will try to catch up at some point, if there was anything important that you needed me to know then drop me an email or a text or something.

Anyway, life hasn't all been WoW (I can give it up anytime, honest) there have been breaks to watch TV and films and stuff too. So here are my viewing highlights for the past week:

Sweeney Todd
Awesome film, I really enjoyed this (even though it did give me nightmares for a couple of nights thereafter) and I'm sure that at some point Helena Bonham-Carter will appear without having her eye-sockets blacked out. The Fox quite enjoyed it too, I think, though he did spend a lot of time complaining about H B-C's singing. For myself I thought her singing, and indeed all the singing in the film, was quite up to the task ... not gobsmacking but hit all the right notes in the right places, but then he was comparing the singing to the likes of Elaine Paige and Julia McKenzie so H B-C was bound to appear poorly by comparison. Although, to my great shame, I haven't seen the stage production the feel of the film was that it was faithful to the original, this is the sort of film that Tim Burton excels at.

Life in Cold Blood
Hurrah! Something to take away the pain of trying to get into the awful "City of Vice". All was as expected, although I sort of drifted off towards the end. Very pretty, very good photography, very enthusiastic (if soporific) narration. But the main function was to get me away from that godsawful other programme ... hopefully I will enjoy it more as the series progresses.

Horizon
I've really been enjoying this series of Horizon, this week's was essentially a top-twenty countdown of the most dangerous drugs in Britain as chosen by scientists. A very, very interesting watch that delivered one or two surprises (ecstacy is apparently less dangerous than tobacco, cannabis, alcohol or even poppers). It's rather a shame that policy makers don't take more of this sort of information on board.

Torchwood
Oh lawks! The dishy Rhys seems to be on-board ... now I'm terrified that the one bit of eye-candy in the show is going to be bumped-off. I do hope that isn't the case, this season has been a vast improvement over the first but that doesn't mean that it doesn't benefit from the occasional bit of totty. They seem to have bumped the Tosh-Owen storyline a bit ... which is something of a shame as I was rather hoping they'd dump it. On the bright side, there were a couple of laugh-out-loud gags last night, which is always nice when they get it right ... and I think they did this time. The main plot was a bit rubbish and was clearly a sideline for the whole Rhys thing, although there were some nice reflective moments for Jack who clearly identified with the giant alien seal.
