I was wondering if I could pick the collective brains of my readers.

Yesterday I uploaded www.thebadplace.co.uk/cataclysm/gallery.htm to demonstrate the Lightbox I'd just added.

Now as you can doubtless see, some of the images aren't displaying ... and this is my problem.

I can see the images on the server and all have the appropriate file size. The same code works perfectly when I look at the page locally.

To be honest I'm at a loss as to why the page isn't working as intended, the only possible culprit I can think of is Madasafish - the site hosts. Before I ring them up (probably in Bangalore) and give them a flea in their ear ... can any of you think of another reason for this to happen?

No, but filenames are case-sensitive with my hosts! Superb catch, thank you ... both for spotting the problem and preventing me from looking like an utter tool.

Umm ... it's an LRP in Candlestone, Wales. It's pretty damn cheap, at a site I love, with some cool people going (also potentially some fuckwits but that's inevitable) running this weekend. There are still gate tickets available I believe if you want to turn up?

Other than that, all I know about the system is on the site, you can either look at the development site above or the official one at www.thetower.net/cataclysm (http://www.thetower.net/cataclysm). Had you been paying attention you would know that I begged them to let me redesign their site after seeing the horror that it used to be. Other than that, I'm just playing.

Glad you've got it solved - case sensitivity is always one of the first things to check if you're developing on Windows because it's incredibly careless when it comes to CS.

On a user-interface point of view, can I point out how horrible that lightbox is though? As much as is possible, the controls that the user uses should remain static, and with that lightbox they don't. The point you have to click on to go to the next / previous photos moves dependant on the size of the photo. Incredibly annoying if the photos haven't been scaled to be the same width throughout.

You're not the first site I've seen using that interface, but it drives me batty.

Yes, the tolerance of Microsoft products is forcing quite a learning curve! Of course it's not a problem I come across when working with my own material because I tend to use only lower case for everything, when working with other people's files on the other hand ...

Sorry that the Lightbox drives you nuts, I'm sorry to say that I rather like it though. Whilst I completely accept that you have a valid point from a usability point of view, I don't think it's a huge issue and I do really like the look of it. One thing I will do though, since you've pointed it out, is to group the portrait and landscape photos together so that you only need to move your pointing-device once. Is that a reasonable compromise?

Ah, but you do know your stuff when it comes to such things and, because you have no connection to the game itself, your objective opinion is worth quite a lot. I thought the criticism about moving the pointer was valid or I wouldn't have done anything about it ... even though I quite enjoyed moving it around and watching the pretty animation ... but then I acknowledge that I'm shallow like that, and pleased by simple things. =)
