New World Order: Grand Tribunal

It's been a week since the event and I think matters have gelled in my mind sufficiently for a write-up.
Firstly, the writers ... what an outstanding group of people you are. The sheer volume of material that the writing team produced is astounding enough, but that so much should have been produced to such a high standard is nothing short of remarkable. Although, considering the people involved, one might expect nothing more than excellence ... that doesn't mean that their achievements shouldn't be celebrated though.1
Also I have to salute my fellow players, who breathed such life into their characters that there was simply no question of dropping out of character, to have done so would have felt entirely unnatural. There are a number of people that I shall miss and who I shall never see again, though I don't doubt that I shall see the people who played them. There were so many times when I completely forgot the player (however well I knew them) and thought only of the character. This is my ideal roleplaying expereince and I'd like to thank each and every one of you, whether I interacted with you directly or not.
The site was very comfortable and the facilities were a breath of fresh air compared to the majority of roleplaying events I've attended, but it was such a shame that we did not have exclusive access to both the house and grounds. Being gawped at by children did not particularly help my suspension of disbelief, though thankfully their intrusions into the game rarely lasted for very long. That being said, the surrounding scenery was incredible and added hugely to a very personal in-character moment. I think, on the whole, that the intrusions were worth it in the end.
So, favourite moments then:
Looking out at the distant hills at twilight and feeling an overwhelming sense of tiredness and acceptance of death. As the rain fell on Hector's face it was a perfect moment of a man who had lived way beyond his time and who knew he was going to suffer a horrible fate in the very near future. It was the culmination of Hector's feeling of impending doom and was one of the more powerful IC moments I've experienced. Many thanks to
Pax_Draconis for so skillfully instilling such a dreadful feeling.
Jarane and Ligea; from promising Jarane that Hector would reunite him with Ligea, to telling Jarane that his next big spell would kill him, to trying to lead Jarane's soul to the Elysian Fields when he died, to travelling there himself with Rebekah to make certain that they had been reunited. An incredible sequence of roleplaying moments and some moments of raw emotion and utter intensity ... how lucky am I to get the opportunity to share in such an experience?
The New2 Olympians - Erebus (Olybrius), Nix (Rebekah), Chronos (Cadamon), Zeus (Stratocanthus), Apollo (Penan al Suryat), Athena (Minerva), Ares (Lyssa), Aphrodite (Sosostris) and Hades (Mons Liberalis), not forgetting our noble (and long-suffering) guide Long-Legged Peter. From beginning to end it was a rollercoaster for me of despair, triumph, anticipation, frustration and humour. The trip to Olympus itself was one of the most mercurial events of the weekend as I was darting from emotion to emotion so fast my brain just couldn't keep up. My thanks to everyone for such an extraordinary couple of days.
Having had all of Hector's curses lifted, going into Tribunal as the man he should have been was such an amazing experience. Thank you to
jfs both for the dilemma that freed him and for the loan of the sword. Thank you so much for starting the snowball effect of happy endings that I had not, even in my wildest and most optimistic dreams, thought possible.
After the happiest of happy endings, there then followed a positive deluge of happy endings to top it. Being made an archmage was totally unexpected and unlooked for, thank you
delvy; then proposing marriage to the ghost of the woman Hector had been in love with since the Theban Tribunal3 and being accepted (many thanks to the long-suffering
immerwahr); and last, but not least, being given a red cap and a job ... and a real sense of belonging, thanks to everyone in House Mercere who were so very kind to an unemployed messenger of the Gods. By time out I was grinning so hard my jaw ached for days afterward.
There were a great many other special moments but if I were to list them all I'd be here all night. Suffice to say a big "thank you" to everyone.
Finally, there have been some requests over the years to find out what the hell was going on with Hector. If you're interested in the answer you can look here for an account. I rather suck at dry facts and suck slightly less at telling stories, so I've written it as a story. It's an expansion of the brief I sent to the writing team at Thebes with some added extras that I only discovered at subsequent events.
In addition, here is Hector's brief for the Grand Tribunal, as written by the marvellously talented
Pax_Draconis and with his permission.

1 A Maelstrom reference of sorts, though entirely apt.
2 And some old.
3 Though I hadn't told anyone on the plot team about it in so many words.
