I've forwarded it to abuse@paycom.net but I'm a little worried that someone may have hacked my Visa account ... though I try to be careful where I use it online.

Has anyone out there received a similar email?

Not I. I assume the removed details are accurate?

Is this a direct use of your VISA then rather than use of some kind of paycom account? If so you should get hold of your card provider yesterday - an abuse line should be open 24 hours.

No, none of the hidden details resemble anything I recognise as mine. Good point re telephoning Visa though ... I'll get on to that now.

Ah, if those aren't your real details you're probably pretty safe. Best to confirm that though!

I've had similiar things before. Chances are its nothing at all, I wouldn't worry too much. Check your bill, but I suspect you'll be fine.

If not, then you'll be able to recover your money, and if they prove difficult I'll write a nasty letter for you ;)

Seriously though, it looks like pretty typical spam to me.

I've contacted my credit card company and apparently the attachment to this email contains a Trojan that is designed to scour my hard drive for bank details and send them back to its master. Visa have no record of that amount being paid from my account on the date cited ... so it's just a phish.

Thankfully, being reasonably astute in these matters I haven't opened the damn thing.

I am now feeling quite belligerant ... although Visa were really helpful.

I got one of these at home and another at work. I have to admit I assumed it was a phishing thing, and so just deleted it. Well done for your perseverence in finding out!

The thing is that I've done the bulk of my yuletide shopping over the internet and with a couple of sites that I'm not familiar with. I was a tad nervous that one of these sites might have been hacked and my credit card details along with it ... hence my perseverance.

Hi honey [livejournal.com profile] coallump was just reading your post over my shoulder and remarked that she has recieved similar mails more than once and just deleted them and no untoward debits were made from her accounts. Hope this helps put your mind at ease, although I think you have done the right thing by informing the tech chaps about it.
