RIP WoW

So World of Warcraft has finally exceeded the capacity of my PC to run. It was going to happen sooner or later, it just happened sooner is all.

Now I need to remember what it was I did before I played MMORPGs ... if I can remember that far back!

Time to cancel my subscription and the pre-ordered Wrath of the Lich King I think.

Really?
I wasn't aware there were any major graphical changes in patch 3
You tried uninstalling any addons and deleting your Interface and WTF folders?
Just to check it's not the patch screwing with them and upping your memory usage?

Nope, it's just the memory requirements for WoW as a whole ... it won't fit on my hard drive any more. Of course I could get a(nother) new hard drive but that would only be postponing the inevitable. From what I hear, it is unlikely that I'll be able to play in the WotLK zones ... I already have massive problems visiting Shattrath and (to a slightly lesser extent) Stormwind. Raids are fine as long as I don't have to move during the combat.

The simple fact is that in order to play I need a new PC, however for the other things I do (writing, web design, etc.) what I have at the moment is just fine ... so a new PC is fairly low on my list of priorities.

Oh no... really? Arse. Maybe my return was short lived... :(

You'll just have to come back to Maelstrom for your Bin fix!

All servers have been shagged tonight, people I know with uber game rigs been on and off all night, bitching on IRC. Maybe worth giving it a few days .. also check your spell details/terrain stuff is turned down.

I used to have min spec and it struggled with bigger stuff ... upping to 2 gig ram really helped :)

See above ... my PC is very very old. My problems have absolutely nothing to do with the game servers.

I'm in a similar boat at the moment - insufficient hard disk space on the drive I keep WoW on.

I may be able to make space by moving and deleting things, but I can't be sure.

It's just the installation process that uses a lot of space - once it's finished installing, it takes up less space than it did after the download had finished.

I moved some films to another drive and happily plonked them back when the install was done.

I got a bit fed up that playing PC games ended up driving having to upgrade my system all the time.

I guess thats why I still do pen and paper gaming - no technical requirements at all...

You see that big yellow thing in the sky?

That is the sun that is.

Welcome back!

You mean that vast explosion in the sky that almost did for me with radiation at your wedding? That thing? I'm better off inside!
