Firstly, many thanks to
cutietrol and Bert (sans LJ) for the following piece of poetic justice in action:
Unhappy thoughts though ... RTD promised that this week's episode of Doctor Who was going to be the one where we completely revised our opinions of Donna as a companion.
No, RTD, no ... she is still annoying and I'd rather see Rose, Martha, Jack, Sarah-Jane or any character from any of the spin-offs as companion rather than the car-crash that is Catherine Tate's portrayal of Donna. Enough already, kill her off ... properly!

Date: 2008-06-22 05:08 pm (UTC)I don't mind CT as Donna, what I do mind is RTD's bloody messiah complex... that "A better world, a world with the doctor in it" line was purest chedder that no actress in the world could have carried off.
Roll on the Moffat incumbency :-)

Date: 2008-06-23 06:53 am (UTC)RTDs messiah complex was at work long before he got involved in Dr.Who, and its a shame to see it to distort the series time after time. A clear case of a writer with issues bringing them into an existing world and messing it up.

Date: 2008-06-22 07:51 pm (UTC)I don't mind Donna quite as much now. Though I preferred Martha, out of the two companions I'm familiar with.
(It was already pretty clear to me Donna was important as part of the Doctor's adventures and continuing survival through individual dangers.)

Date: 2008-06-23 06:51 am (UTC)I sat and watched the latest episode thinking-ah this is where RTD tries to make us think how wonderful Donna is-how we MUST now love her because she is Soooo central to everything. I dont care if she is 'central'-in all likelihood you could write episodes suggesting almost every character in the series had a similar influence. She is still annoying and gurns as much as the doctor - one gurner acting technique I can just about cope with-but not two.
