Oh what have I done?

Well, the Fox has been away for a week in the Canary Isles so, with a whole two weekends free I've had a busy old time.

Last weekend saw me in Nottingham in the company of Jojo-Jojo and Niggle (sans LJ) as I made a surprise appearance at the Harts event. I had a wonderful evening bimbling about being Cadarn and putting the wind up one or two people, many thanks are due to the lovely Dragonzgrace (yes, both of you) for hosting. Saw too many lovely people to namecheck but I had a really splendid evening ... though no, I have no plans at all to return to Locko or to put any money in the pocket of Mr King.

Saturday night and Sunday was spent in the company of the lovely Uberluggage and assorted Vipers. Had a sumptuous brekky and watched a cheerleader movie starring the cheerleader from Heroes ... this was not anywhere near as awful as it sounds, cheerleader movies are the way forward I tell you.

Midweek saw character generation for WSDante's latest Jorune campaign. I'm really looking forward to this one as I'm revisiting an old character of mine who was a bundle of fun to play back in the day and who I'm very much looking forward to getting reacquainted with.

Then this weekend saw me heading up to Sexbat Towers to join Jul1et, s0b, Ingenue_the and a cast of thousands (again too many to namecheck) for the last ever B-Movie. The music was outstanding, as was the company. Had a splendid night, got to see a great many beautiful people, danced a bit for the first time in many years, listened to some excellent music and, as is only right and proper in stories such as these, had my heart broken a little.

Sunday we may have tripped and fallen into a WoW-hole, which was fun but did mean that (having left my phone in the living room) I missed the call to come out into the Real World™ to pootle around London in the company of several lovely people. Mind you, I was warm, comfy and had some pretty damn fine company myself so I don't regret not going too much. For dinner, s0b cooked us Duck McNuggets¹, which were very tasty and then I made my way home with the soundtrack to Prospero's Books echoing around the car ... all in all a very pleasant week.


¹ Goujons of duck served with a chutney of cranberry and orange (laced with Grand Marnier), with roast potatoes.

For me Cthulhu is the game I always come back to in the end-it seems to have the right balance of things to endure. A blend of simplicity, immediacy, ease of play/adventure creation, accessibility and so on. Its the only game I have consistently found appealing to women as well as men and needs no explanations about the setting or how to play. It is also very good for both occasional play at short notice and extended games (important these days when I have little time for long winded games).

Back in the days when I played rpgs almost every other day (certainly almost every weekend) Jorune was a game I would have played had I got a copy-we experimented with so many. Aftermath stuck for a while (our own setting of a post deluge England) and we played a fair bit of Twilight 2000 with the Aftermath rules as well. Dnd was a staple of course. In more recent times Vampire has had a long run of games in our group (though the rules are dire). Experiments with games like Dr.Who, Star Trek, Bushido, Space 1889, Paranoia, Pendragon and the like were short lived. Traveler we toyed with but actually enjoyed creating characters more than playing!
I just keep coming back to Cthulhu.
