I want this in my life.

Work safe ... except when you squeel and clap your hands with glee ... then it probably isn't.

I'm going to call, you, but only because I've done my research.

Careful. Those of a delicate disposition regarding furniture may want to wait until they get home, for fear of screaming with glee.

Difficult to tell, but the basic theory should be that the orignal segments should have a tighter curve and hence "bulge" more. However they could be being sneaky and using the right degree of curvature for the larger circle, hiding it with that rim/collar doohicky. Or maybe not.

A good look at that clip suggests you are right about the doohickey - the main six segments to appear to have the large-diameter curve and are "corrected" by the rim. Sneaky.
