Best LRP in the World ... Ever
Apr. 14th, 2004 12:23 amCan you tell I was camped with a bunch of Vipers? Those who are not interested in reading about the Maelstrom campaign, by the way, might as well stop reading now.
Had a fantastic time at the weekend playing a priest of the Merchant and, even though I wasn't well enough to walk very far (and thus only saw our own glade and the central area) I don't think my time was entirely wasted. I'm very much looking forward to the next one where hopefully I can attend some of the pan-denominational meetings (if only to be rude to everyone else), visit more glades (especially the Anaguma who I'm told do a very nice stir-fry and whom I might be able to convince to feed me sake till it pours out of my ears), and become Preceptor of the New World. Speaking of the Anaguma I saw this great entry on
Cutietroll's LJ and thought of you.
On the whole Maelstrom was all the things I hoped it would be and none of the things I was worried it might be. Although I found the whole eidolon open-season painfully boring - and a little hard to believe (mass murder of angels seems just a tad unrealistic). I think part of the problem with this was that Eidolons are pitifully weak initially (so they're an easy mark for bullies out for a fight) and there seemed to be very few ways of telling a Fallen from a non-Fallen, which when added to the uncertainty revolving around exactly what an Eidolon could do with your soul led to a general hysteria and extermination policy. I completely understand why the turnaround period for Eidolons was reduced (of course that may have been a rumour) as it would suck beyond all belief to spend only an hour a day IC. Hopefully blanket slaughter of Eidolons will stop sooner rather than later; mind you, hopefully the vast flocks of Eidolons will reduce too ... you couldn't walk five yards without bumping into a messenger of the gods!
I do need to get a shooting stick for next time, my regular walking stick just couldn't cope with the terrain and will have to be replaced pronto, and I found standing in queues very difficult at times ... this is not a criticism of the queues by the way, the fact that I can't stand up for long periods of time is hardly Profound Decisions' fault. Buying provisions for the weekend was also something of an experience! These days I generally grab a wheelchair if I'm going to wander around a supermarket and while I was pootling around with Jo (sans LJ) in the local Tescos I discovered a significant downside to being in a wheelchair. When somebody farts they tend to do so at about the same height as your face, had I been a little more alert I might have rammed a leek up the offending orifice rather than rolling off as fast as I could.
So desperately looking forward to doing my downtime actions, writing certain key letters and working out some more services ... oh, and the next event!
