The Drabble Meme

I'll respond to (at least) the first ten people who request a short piece of fiction on a specific subject or character (and if the character isn't real or familiar, give me some description to work with, please!) with a short story of 100 words (or less).

There is no requirement for you to undertake this meme yourself if you don't want to. There is also no guarantee at all of when I will complete the task.

Cow tipping

Cow Tipping

[identity profile] binidj.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The field was difficult, though not impossible, to reach; perched as it was on the edge of the old quarry. Mr Jackson wasn't rich and couldn't really afford better. Still, the cows seemed content up there and the recent fad of cow-tipping seemed to have passed.

Except that actually, it hadn't.

As night came the kids drove up to the field, boasting and swearing. Parking, they turned the lights off and lit a spliff to bolster their bravado.

A thump! A few screams and a distant splash later; and only a low chorus of giggled moos broke the silence.

Man Discovering What Man was not Meant to Know

"Tempting, but I'm not sure"
"Oh go on, it won't kill you"
"Well you say that but I've heard stories"
"We've both heard stories but do you actually know anyone who has?"
"Well, obviously not, no"
"Well then"
"I will if you will"
"Well if you will, I will"
"Go on then"
"You first"
"Alright then"

And the wise serpent smiles because all is well in the garden.

Why an angel would cry

Why an Angel Would Cry

They were, all of them, in tears. Wailing, their feet torn to rags, their angelic blood spraying in all directions. At first it had been relatively easy, there was plenty of room to spread one's wings, to keep most of one's weight off of the pin; but then the others had come. The others had come and there was no room for wings to spread, no way of refuting the awful law of gravity that was the cause of so much pain, no means of gaining even a moment's respite from the awful, driving pain of the dance.

Looking Back at a Childhood Dream

As I sit here, slightly less than comfortable in this wipe-clean chair, the smell of week-old urine redolent in the air. I sit here, wherever "here" is and I don't know these people. "Sit here" they say, and their voices are patient, if not especially kind, but I do not know them. "Here" where is "here"?

Perhaps this is some kind of dream; Perhaps I will wake to feel my mother's lips on my brow, see her radiant smile, hear her gentle laughter and smell her perfume? Perhaps. Perhaps.

I wish I could wake up.

Cadarn

I almost settled on this - so much more appropriate coming from you.

Cadarn

[identity profile] binidj.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wish it would rain", Cadarn lifted his head from where it had been resting, very comfortably, on Gerald's chest. Sunlight was streaming in through the window, yet he had rarely felt so miserable. "I wish there would be something ... I'm so sorry". So confident speaking to crowds, here he just couldn't find the right words; couldn't say what he needed to.

"We've spoken about this", the other man's voice was a pleasing baritone, "you have a duty".

"Ah yes, duty".

Shrugging on his robes, Cadarn prepared to head off to the Circle.

He had a wedding to go to.

I'm so glad you said Gerald and not Gerard there .... :-)

Yes, that would have been a little embarassing wouldn't it =)

Crows in the Night

"Ello, what do we 'ave 'ere then?" intoned George, peering at the clearly dead body. "Well the obvious answer is a corpse," he continued, "however this was no accidental death, though someone was at pains to make it look so." Arthur glared, he found George's approach to murders a little too melodramatic.

"Yes, someone meant for us to find this poor soul here by the roadside, look over there at those drag marks."

"Fascinating," Arthur grumbled, his beak glistening wetly in the moonlight, "now are you going to eat that other eye? Or do you mind if I have it?"

My head is still full of Love and Flowers - they are resisting my attempts to return to normality - I am minded to let them stay.

So, either of those would be lovely.

"I am cruelty driving the knife to sever future hope"
"I am loneliness seeking any attention, and making a friend of cruelty"
"I am loss which takes away all friendships"
"I am memory which keeps friendship alive in the heart"
"I am forgetfulness consigning memory to the void"
"I am love which knows thee even in the void"
"I am scorn which makes a fool of love"
"I am the fool who loves regardless of scorn"
"Ha! You changed Art! You lose."
"Oh bugger! Alright then my love, you get to read Elektra her bedtime story."
"I do, my love."
