A Room With A View
Nov. 5th, 2007 04:01 pmI saw the ITV adaptation of EM Forster's novel today (taped from Sunday) and was most impressed. Some of you may recall that my first (and only) job as a professional stage actor was in an adaptation of A Room With A View and so I have something of a soft spot for the story. Although the ending wasn't in the novel, I felt that it made perfect sense within the context of the piece (ie. Lucy's journey of self-realisation) although the cut-scenes in the first half I found very irritating..
In terms of characterisations, I think everyone did a creditable job, and I was heartened to see that Mark Williams (Mr Beebe) made pretty much the same character choices that I had in the part, which pleased me no end. All in all I heartily approved and I think it did a much better job all round ... with the possible exception of the camera work ... than the Merchant Ivory version.
Now, must get writing!
