Coming up for air
Jul. 2nd, 2007 02:59 pmThis is another of my occasional mid-WoW posts. Yes, I'm still in the hole, no, there are no signs of getting out of it any time soon. Anyway, onto TV and other stuff:
Dr Who
Russell Davies seems to have something for these deus ex machina endings and I don't for the life of me, know why. Perhaps, had there been a little more explanation of the psychic nature of the Master's influence it might have been less grating; but my recollection is of the Doctor explaining the mind control less in terms of psychic power and more in terms of subliminal messages being delivered via communication devices (a bit like the earplugs in the Cyberman episodes). I was also somewhat unsure of the whole artificial aging thing.
Still, on the bright side, Tennant and Simm were an amazing combination, and there was some very fine acting going on. Also the Toclafayn (sp?) twist was superb, made me feel as though I should have seen it coming ... which is the best thing you can say about twists really. The Ming ending was utter, utter genius.
Heroes
I've only just started watching this show and my word it's been pretty amazing thus far. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favour and grab the DVD (when it comes out) ... I'd put it right up there with the first season of Lost at the moment, though with a lot more payback, which is where I think Lost faltered.
Homes
The Fox has had an offer accepted on a rather lovely house in Sompting, near Worthing, and he and I popped round to take a look at it this weekend. It's a small house, but doesn't feel like it, and has a rather splendid garden. No idea when the move will actually take place but we're hoping for mid-August.
And Finally
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
Gasp!
