Sunday ended quite poorly for me as I got rear-ended (stop sniggering at the back there) after stopping at a roundabout. Nobody was hurt and the other fellow's car came off much worse than mine; though, from the looks of things I shall be having the rear bumper section replaced, including the metal bit behind the bumper. Hopefully there is no actual structural damage, though one hears these awful stories about buckled frames and the like. The car seems driveable at the moment, indeed, I drove to London and back for a hospital appointment on Monday so it clearly is driveable.

Monday was bloody awful, pointless blasted CBT with accompanying hellish drive into Brixton. I really dislike driving into London ... distance-wise the journey to the hospital is the same distance as from my house to the Fox's, but it takes quite literally three times longer. Needless to say I was wiped out for the rest of the day when I returned.

Tuesday then saw me catching up on the weekend's TV. Dr Who this weekend was a bit rubbish up until the watch was revealed ... at which point I started yelling at the TV. Derek Jacobi was in very fine form (and, I might add, looking very dishy indeed) and John Simm was everything I was hoping he'd be ... lovely script touches echoing Tennant's first lines as the Doctor. The next two weeks just can't come fast enough for me.

Also saw Hyde which, although I didn't have very high hopes for it, turned out to be a lot more subtle and funny than the Radio Times (not to mention all the advertising) had led me to believe ... Disney favourites was a stroke of utter genius.

Last night's Magpie Empire game continued the trend of the game being utterly different to any other game I've taken part in, as four of the players assumed the roles of their superiors and interviewed the fifth member of the party, who had "sacrificed herself to alien gods" ... oh, and turned into an "alien" herself. The players consistently throw me curve-balls and I'm having to reasses the direction of the game on a regular basis. As well as being a challenge this is also huge fun for me, though I'm hoping that the next combat the group takes part in lasts longer than a second!1

And so to today which will see me, if I muster up the courage, going to the funeral of my old form master. I couldn't stand the man when I was actually at school, but subsequent years have mellowed my feelings toward him and I am quite sorry that he has died. Much as I would like to pay my respects, I am rather dreading meeting my ex peers ... and that, if nothing else, might keep me away. I am especially dreading the inevitable "so what are you doing?" questions ... because there is just no way that saying "Oh yes I'm unemployed with a made-up illness" sounds good ... even though I know it isn't made up, still there's that nasty little voice ...

Ah well, we shall see if I pluck up the courage or not eh?

1 The only character with any appreciable combat skills (aka jojo-jojoJoJo-JoJo) managed to kill a group of aliens in one round by sending an awful lot of ammunition in their direction (and rolling a special). Admittedly there had been a couple of grenades used (largely inneffectively) prior to that but essentially the main fight was all over in less than a second. The second group of aliens (and the ship's doctor) were also dealt with, after having taken over the players' ship, by some rather underhanded use of available technology, combined with inertia.
