Well Brendan Perry jiggled a bit but last nights performance was largely static, aside from various location changes to play different instruments or take a break. Static only in a physical sense though, the music was sublime ... as I had hoped it would be. When the zithers and drums and hurdy-gurdy's started up and Lisa and Brendan were singing together I was utterly transported. Although I've always preferred Lisa Gerrard's voice over Brendan Perry's within DCD, I've never been mad keen on her as a solo artist1 so I found some of her solo pieces a little self-indulgent 2 which is not to say that they weren't extremely well done. Curiously , I found a new appreciation for Brendan's voice and I suspect that I shall be listening to Severance quite a few times in the near future. Hearing them play Saltarello which has long been one of my favourites was just wonderful!

The journey there was a little confused, my chauffeur kept referring to me as "Mister Desiato" and had an unhealthy fixation with rolling me into the ornamental lake cunningly placed at the bottom of the ramp from the car park. Loudly proclaiming "Oi! Where's my cripple" and "We only brought him so we could park for free" did not endear him to me3. I did, however manage to get there in one piece and we also managed to get out again ... although that did involve negotiating an obstacle course and narrowly avoiding being sent back to the beginning again4 before using some of the chauffeur's 'people skills' on the gentleman who ran the car park ... I'm sure he'll recover ... eventually.

1I was even less keen on the canary yellow marquee she'd hired for the night.
2Although the final song of the concert was breathtaking and left me with a lump in my throat.
3Actually it was quite funny but I feel that one ought to project a certain amount of outraged displeasure at comments like that ... or anyone will think they can get away with it.
4Do not pass Go, do not collect your disabled driver's parking voucher, do not visit any of the locations we send you to without an extremely fit chauffeur to wheel you up 45 degree slopes and try to squeeze you through doors that are either broken, not wide enough for a wheelchair ... or both.
