Cataclysmic

I'm probably a bit too tired to write anything particularly legible about the weekend now but since when have I ever let that stop me?

Low points:
  • After the unbelievable hassles with the new tent at Maelstrom (ie. it not being there), discovering that the tent company had neglected to include any tent pegs or guy ropes. Thankfully s0bs0b had sufficient rope and string to act as guy ropes and I always bring a bag of good pegs anyway.

  • Due to an error in putting the tent up (this may have had something to do with the instructions being in Dutch), I was treated to a small pond inside it come Sunday morning ... this turned into a larger pond as the day progressed.

  • The weather was shit very wet

  • The game organisers didn't have a contingency plan for bad weather/technical failures

High points:
  • The reactions that s0bs0b, suicideallySuicideally and I got when we first entered the IC tavern ... classic "Slaughtered Lamb" scenario ... much fun.

  • Having an IC smith give me three ingots of metal ... that I'd just watched him make1 from scratch

  • Roleplaying my socks off all weekend.

  • Entertaining in the camp ... I intend to do more of that next time.

  • The hailstorm.

  • The attitudes of everyone playing and organising.

I've doubtless missed loads of stuff but suffice to say that I had a good old time and intend to go to the next one (sometime in March) ... I'm already missing playing the General.

Props to my peeps: s0bLord Liar Gristleweaver and suicideallyLady Letitia Thimbleweaver, ace kidnappers and rain-dancers.

1Making the mold out of a pot filled with sand, melting the metal in a pan over a bellows-driven fire, pouring the metal into the mold, waiting for the metal to cool, then turning it out and putting the still-warm ingots into my hands.

What was the issue with the way you pitched the tent I saw the aftermath but did not understand the cause?

I am most cross at being back in the 'real' world. Why is March so far away?!

Entertaining in the camp definitely an intention we have for next time - we want to do our IC tent properly (eg more candles and throws, more roleplaying while in there, fewer Tescos carrier bags!) and have it as more of an involved area.

Sorry to hear you've had troubles with the tent people - they're normally excellent

The main thing to check is that the ground sheet goes on TOP of the heavy plastic lining around the bottom of the walls
Takes about 2 secs to pull it up and pop the groundsheet over the top

The other thing to check is that the seams are all tight and not sagging

Other than that they are pretty much impossible to get wet inside - would be interested in how yours did so I could guard against it though

I put the mud skirt inside and on top of the groundsheet rather than inside and under the groundsheet or outside. Really I should have seen it coming ... I shan't make the same mistake again.

Yep, see my comment to Simon above ... it was the mud-skirt/groundsheet cock-up.

it's one of the advanatges of the Burgundian is that the curtained off area usually contains the OOC guff and the rest of the tent looks IC.

Of course given the rain and the sand I suspect we would have needed to leave the Burgundian behind as it would never have fitted in the car

If we have throws we can conceal the OOC stuff, and also it was just that we didn't get around to moving some of it to the OOC tent and tidying up properly. If our camp is either more of a social hub or more of a target it'll be worth doing it properly next time.

So Bin,

Did you enjoy it?

You might like to know that in general people were so utterly terrified of you that often they stopped to check that you weren't following them.

Hum ho....

Its a bit of an odd event.... stuff happens if it happens.... there isn'tbreally a lot of provided plot as such.

Yah Smithy/Tinker is fabulous.... he came to our camp and showed us how to smelt metal for coins and so on... very good stuff....

Sorry I didn't want to interact with you overly.... I was trying to work out how an elf would react rather than how alick would react....

Oh yes,.... those were fabulous coats BTW.

Hope you feel like you'd like to come again.

*nods*

Yup people were unlikely to visit you on spec this time.... mainly because we were all shit scared of you...

Especially you...

So did you enjoy it at all? Was that your first experience so to speak?

Yes I enjoyed it and yes I fully intend to come again. Nice to know that we disturbed people.

For some reason Bleakworms voice reminded me of a Skeksis from the dark crystal.... since these terrified me as a child it made me rather wary of you...

The influences on his voice were indeed Skeksis (and Mab from Merlin) ... well spotted.

Yes, first LRP, not done any sort of roleplaying before.

I intend to be there next time.

Karl did try and persuade me to cancel the holiday and go there instead; I resisted.
