That would be Colonel Tigh from Battlestar Galactica, which really is an adult sci-fi show. If you haven't seen it yet I heartily recommend getting hold of the pilot and season 1 (season 3 was shown last year). Probably the best words to describe BSG would be "gritty" and "hard-edged" and they're not in the least afraid of tackling some big questions.

If you watch no television at all this year aside from BSG you'll be doing alright.
